Traditional Thai massage is an ancient medical art which combines acupressure, assisted yoga stretches and herbal medicine; it is being promoted by the Thai government's Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education for stress management, and for muscular pain due to stress and anxiety. Infant and Child Massage is designed to promote parent-child bonding and the infant/ child's emotional and physical health; its gentle and soft techniques can be adapted for use for the elderly, as well as for the handicapped , including autistic children.
The benefits of therapeutic massage have been validated by recent researches conducted at the Touch Research Institute of the University of Miami School of Medicine . Following appropriate indications and contraindications, the Touch Research Institute has shown that massage therapy :
1. Facilitates weight gain in preterm infants
2. Enhances attentiveness
3. Alleviates depressive symptoms
4. Reduces pain
5. Reduces stress hormones
6. Improves immune function
