Classes start at 9 a.m. with a chanting ceremony in honor of the Buddha , and Dr. Shivago, an Ayurvedic doctor who is  also known as the Father and originator of Thai Traditional Medicine from the time of the Buddha. The classes end at 4 pm., followed by a 45 minute practice of Thai Yoga stretching exercises which is said to have originated from the practice of Thai Buddhist monks at Wat Po (Temple of the Reclining Buddha) in Bangkok area. Below (right) is an old statue depicting Thai massage stretching routines at the Wat Po temple. The Chetawan School in Salaya is the only Wat Po affiliated school which is holding a 165-hour training course in Professional Thai Massage. Dr. Simbulan will also be taking the Infant and Child Massage Course after the professional Traditional Thai Massage Course at the same school from Oct. 1 - 4, 2007.

More pictures: Below (left) is a basic thai massage stretching technique.  Thai traditional massage, just like other forms of therapeutic massage techniques, have general indications for stress management and health care, as well as contraindications too.  Below (right) is Jeane Peracullo, Assistant Professor of De La Salle Univ - Manila and wife of Dr. Simbulan during a short visit during the tri-semestral break on a Sunday off from daily training.

Floating market visit last Sunday, Sept 9 (below left, with classmates). Also (below right) is a picture of the high-vegetable composition of regular Thai meals at school as well as in many places in Thailand. This is something that we have to promote in Philippine society. Food is also very cheap in Thailand, a testament to their successes in agricultural production.

For scientific papers on clinical and basic scientific dimensions of therapeutic massage, see the TOUCH RESEARCH INSTITUTE (University of Miami School of Medicine).
