CIM Staff assistant Emie Guimary (CIM) and Lena (COMMED Community Organizer), under CIM-Research Services subsidy, just concluded their 3 whole day Tuina (Chinese massage) training at the DOH- Philippine Institute for Traditional and Alternative Health Care (PITAHC) in Greenhills from Sept 18 - 20. We intend to do some follow-up activities on this, including manualization of techniques, as well as refresher courses. It is our hope that CIM will venture in organizing training workshops in the future as it enhances its internal training capabilies in various massage therapies which take time and effort to practice these techniques at a professional level. A future program is to acquire training skills in Filipino Hilot and Japanese Shiatsu . Most immediate is a future training project in Traditional Thai Massage which is an ancient technique combining Ayurvedic yogic stretches with Chinese-style massage (tuina or acupressure), which have similarities to the Japanese massage technique of Shiatsu.
